Um…guys…how is it June?!
I’m pretty sure last time I checked I was 40.5 weeks pregnant, on my way to go see Beauty and the Beast in the theater enjoying the last few days of my Spring Break…where did April and May scurry off to in such a blur?
I suppose that’s life with a kid, huh? I’m sure there’s plenty of y’all who can attest to that.
ANYWAYS, it’s been a few months since I’ve done this segment, and I want to get it rollin’ again so you can see some other neato things I’ve been digging lately.
Yes, some are fitness/food/health related, while others give you a further peak into what I like to watch and read and listen to…a further understanding of your favorite Healthy Happy Texan, if you will.
Speaking of that, I’ll be sharing a few books I’ve read this past month (I read while nursing at night…that’s the only way I have time for it anymore). BUT I’d love to hear from y’all any recommendations for solid summer reads- the serious and profound as well as the lighthearted and jovial. Leave me a comment below if you have one you want to recommend to me.
Hopefully, June won’t rush by nearly as alarmingly quick as May did; I don’t want this summer and these early months with my sweet little nugget to go by too quickly.
Alrighty friends, let’s get into some of the things I’ve been diggin’ lately!
And if you're interested in snagging' any of these things for yourself, I've created an Amazon link for y'all if you just click on the picture.
1. Quest Salted Caramel Protein Powder
I never thought I could be so excited about a protein powder, but this one, friends, is a game changer. Added into a smoothie or shake, tossed into homemade protein bars or bites, this powder adds flavor that is reminiscent of cream cheese icing. No, it’s not that salty, but the caramel flavor is fantastic. It’s like an amped up vanilla, with a flavor that reminds me of cake batter. At about $34 for 2 pounds, it's a pretty good deal, too!
2. SHAPE Cyberia Sports Bra
As someone who has had to adjust to way more action in my chest region occurring when I jump or jog, I quickly realized I was in dire need of some more supportive sports bras. This one is a winner- super supportive with its higher neckline and its darn cute. They aren’t super cheap (about $50 each), but you get what you pay for here. My girls are forever grateful. And kudos to Mister HHT for finding this gem for me for Mother's Day!
3. Smoothie Bowls using #1
Now that summer is cranking up here in Texas, my cravings for oatmeal are waning as I want someone cool and refreshing on these increasingly balmy mornings. And now that I’ve discovered Quest’s Salted Caramel Protein powder, these bowls are happening nearly every other day.
4. Fed+Fit Podcast
I stumbled upon the adorable, approachable Cassy Joy when listening to one of my other favorite Paleo podcasts, PaleoOMG, when she was guest hosting. I love that she provides practical nutrition and fitness advice every episode without getting too technical and geeky.
5. The Property Brothers
I know I’m probably behind the times on this one, but I can’t help but love this show. Sure, I mainly love seeing the design graphics, but I also enjoy seeing the dilapidated and outdated spaces transformed into chic rooms. Perfect nursing entertainment!
6. Kale Salad Mix
After a friend brought me one of these a few weeks after Lee was born, I have been obsessed! Most frequently, I turn this crispy, flavorful (not bitter!) salad mix that’s loaded with shaved brussel sprouts, kale, shredded broccoli stems, and cabbage into the base of a ‘power bowl’, which usually consists of leftover roasted veggies, avocado, leftover protein, and a fried egg. Of course, you can just buy the salad mix and eat it as a normal salad, too (though I recommend swapping out the dressing for your own…it has junk in it).
7. Hoda's Biography
As a longtime fan of the Hoda and Kathy Lee portion of the Today show, I knew I would love learning more about the adorably positive costar, Hoda. Her autobiography is a perfect summer/new mom read; it’s lighthearted, interesting, and can be read two pages or sixty-two pages at a time. If you love the fourth hour of the Today show as much as I do, this book has your name written all over it!
8. Workout Jams
The Greatest by Sia
Savage (featuring Flux Pavilian) by Whethan
Only One (featuring Digital Farm Animals) by Sigala
Alrighty peeps, that's all for the month of May. I'll see y'all tomorrow for my weekly workouts!
