As I confessed to y’all back in November, your beloved Healthy Happy Texan does not solely shop at Wal-Mart on a weekly or monthly basis. Wal-Mart has a fantastic selection of paleo-friendly and gluten-free items, yet this foodie has to spread her wings and fly beyond what Wal-Mart can offer.
So today, I’m here to share some of my favorite festive finds that I’ve stumbled upon at my Dallas AND Knoxville Trader Joe’s.
Trader Joe’s=my food sanctuary.
If I’ve had a rough doctor’s appointment with my OBGYN, I go to Trader Joe’s.
If I need to kill thirty minutes in Dallas, I go to Trader Joe’s.
If I’m just a little bored and want a free snack, I go to Trader Joe’s.
It’s like a food Narnia, y’all….you never know what kind of culinary wizardry you will uncover there unless you go there for yourself.
So here’s a list of items you should be able to find over the next few weeks…but don’t take too long. Trader Joe’s prides itself on its seasonality, so once January creeps in many of these goods may be outta there.
But for now, enjoy my Trader Joe’s Must-Haves for December!
1. Potted Tulips
For $9, you've got a quick last-minute gift (or fun decorative touch to your casa) that will last for weeks. PLUS you can keep the neato hurricane-like vase afterwards.
2. Pomegranate Airils
For $5, you've got instantly seeded pomegranates. Those bad boys, while usually only $1-2, can be messy and take a while to get all the seeds out. If you're pressed for time, it's worth a few extra bucks to have instant pomegranate pizazz.
3. Roasted Chestnuts
Sliced in a stuffing, chopped up with brussel sprouts, and pureed into a cake filling, chestnuts could definently add a little festive flair to your Christmas feast this year!
4. Harry and David's Comice Pears
OH MY LANTA! If you haven't tried these pears, they are the cadillac of pears. Sublimely juicy and lucious honey flavor, these pears are perfect for snacking or slicing up for a cheese plate. I would not cook these...they're just too good on their own. And for $8 for two pounds, it's a very fair price (and would be a fabulous last minute gift or hostess gift)!
5. Gluten Free Cranberry Orange Ricotta Cake
Paleo? Not so much...but at least it's made with wholesome ingredients and is gluten-free, which is more irritating to my body than dairy. If you're pressed for time to do your own Christmas baking, pick one of these up and be on your merry way. And again, the combination of orange and cranberry will put you and your guests in the Christmas spirit.
6. Wintery Blend Coffee
A little spice in your morning cup of Joe is just what these frosty, dark mornings need! Go ahead and stock up now, because you never know how long these will be in stock!
7. Candy Cane Green Tea
Who doesn't love a little peppermint tea? Perfect as a vehicle for a Hot Toddy or preggo-friendly straight up, this tea is a festive sip for everyone in your house!
8. Bacon-Wrapped Scallops
Need at instant appetizer that will be a crowd pleaser? Look no further! Salty, smoky bacon+richly sweet scallops=these bad boys will be gobbled up in seconds!
9. Bacon-Wrapped Dates
Santa could totally put a box or two of these in my stocking and I'd be a pretty happy camper...pop these in the oven for a spectacular appetizer for Christmas or even New Year's Eve!
10. Taste Test of Caramels
This commically large box of caramels would be a great White Elephant gift, stocking stuffer, or Christmas activity for you and your family. With a dozen different flavors of caramels in the box, you and your guests are invited to try to identify each flavor in a guessing game by each taking a little sample of each caramel. If that sounds like too much structure for your family this Christmas, just buy the box and get your snack on!
11. Frozen Gluten Free Pizza Dough
Ready to cover with your favorite toppings and serve, this would be marvelous to have on hand for those impromptu pizza nights. Just top with little tomato paste and cheese, and you've got dinner in minutes!
12. Vanilla Almond Spiced Chai
With a little almond and coconut milk, this dairy-free beverage is a great alternative to that beloved chai latte. Loaded with all the same creamy, spicy goodness, this drink also packs some protein thanks to pea protein added in.
13. Coconut Oil Packets
YES! FINALLY! I can't tell you how much of a weirdo I've felt carrying around little tupperware containers of coconut oil around when I travel. Mister HHT and I love plopping this stuff in our coffee for a boost of healthy fat in the morning; now we don't have to feel as strange traveling with it thanks to these neat, convinent packets.
14. Roasted Garlic and Onion Jam
What would you do with this? What would you NOT do with this is the better question, y'all! Slather on a burger, spread onto a flatbread, or serve on a cheese and charcuterie board, this smokey-sweet condiment packs a serious flavor punch!
Let's Chat: Any of these finds already made it into your kitchen? Or do any of them make you pumped up to get your Joe's on? Comment and let me know! And have a wonderful Wednesday, y'all!
