WHOOP WHOOP! It’s FRIDAY! Way to go, y’all made it! I can’t believe my time in Knoxville is nearly up. Normally, I’d start getting a little weepy BUT not this time. The family fun is just moving to one of my favorite places on the planet- DeBordieu, SC (aka Debby Dew since us Tennesseans struggle with the fancy French pronunciation). By the way, the arrangement above was done by my talented mother.
Today I want to start a little somethin’ with you in which I share what I’m crushing on in my life. It’s a place to just share some things that aren't necessarily food or fitness but still add to my daily health and happiness. Hopefully, some of these things can bring you some joy, too. That is the whole goal of this blogging thing. Without further ado…
1. Trader Joe’s Mango Body Butter
First of all, I love how luxurious a body butter feels over a body lotion. Yes, I can tell the difference. Trader Joe’s always has a coconut scent stock, so I’d recommend this summery one that’s refreshing and bright. It makes me feel like I’ve slathered a mango daiquiri on my skin. One can only dream…
2. Indigo Toes
In the summer, I love to go bold on my toes. I'm not proud of the feet I inherited from my father; I'm aware they aren't lovely. All the more reason to adorn them. This week, indigo seemed to call my name. Perhaps my tootsies knew I wanted to match the Smoky Mountains or coordinate with the Atlantic Ocean. I’m indigoing for it (the elementary teacher couldn’t resist. No, I'm not sorry).
3. TX Figs
I have a problem, and I know it. Figs are, hands down, my favorite fruit. I didn’t discover them until meandering through the farmer’s market in Greenville, SC (home of the cutest downtown ever and my alma mater Furman). Figs can go savory or sweet. They sing with goat cheese and honey, but they’re also spectacular on yogurt, pancakes, or just popped into your mouth. Rumor has it they are smashing on a pizza…
4. Acrobat Rosé
I had never been one for pink wine. I’m plenty in touch with my feminine side. I enjoy chick-flicks and mani-pedis. But something about pink wine seemed just two steps away from bedazzling my bedspread (not that there is anything wrong with that). That was until I tried this little beauty. Crisp, slightly sweet, rosé pinot noir. Stop judging it and go buy some pink wine. I give you permission to also dust off the bedazzled.
5. Handstand Holds
And if you drink enough pink wine, you could try doing handstands! Okay, I don’t actually recommend that, but I know some of you are thinking that’s the only way you will attempt a handstand. I’m nowhere near a freestanding handstand, but I like to do a series of 30-second handstand holds a few times a week to work on it. It’s a killer shoulder and core workout, too.
Tip- The closer your hands are to the wall, the higher your feet on the wall, and the more straight your body, the harder it is. You don’t actually have to start with a wall. You could actually start with resting your feet on a chair or something not as high…we all have to start somewhere.
6. Free State of Jones
Matthew McConaughey+American history=alright alright alright (name that movie for two bonus points). Thanks to growing up with two older brothers, the gruesome battle scenes didn’t stop me from enjoying this historical action drama. If you like history or Mr. McConaughey, then you’re set for a delightful 2 hours (unless the man sitting three seats down is the LOUDEST popcorn eater in the world…seriously, how is it possible to crunch so violently?!).
7. Workout Jams
Yes, the majority of my pump-up tunes are hip-hop, poppy techno, or Emo. It works for me, and it just might work for you. You never know until you try, right?
Is your boat afloatin'? I'd love to hear your thoughts on any or all of my favs this week - favorite summer nail color, pink wine, handstands...Also, email subscription is IN THE WORKS! Yeay! Have a FABULOUS weekend everyone. I've got the South Carolina coast in my weekend view. What are y'all up to?
