Hey friends! You’ve made it halfway through your week (and hopefully you didn’t have to work Monday. Score!).
I have a confession that may horrify some of y'all. I love grocery shopping. I mean, seriously, love it. A store filled with food, all just waiting to be transformed into a plateful of joy, is magical to me. I love discovering new goodies, whipping through the isles scanning for new types of nut butter, pears, frozen sweet potato fries, salsas…I can feel my heart racing just thinking about it! So, I’d love to start sharing some of this passion with you. It’s time to put some joy back into grocery shopping.
I want to introduce y’all to a weekly segment that is inspired by none other than YOU! Around town and online, I keep getting asked over and over again just where I’m finding these ingredients, spices, and accouterments (2 points if you use that one in conversation today) that stock my pantry and inspire my recipes. Well, I’m sorry to tell you it isn’t some elite, posh grocery store in Dallas that costs $20 just to get in the door, nor is it an all-organic, all-nonGMO, all-holy foods website that I have been keeping from the world.
It’s Walmart. And it is not one in the bustling metropolis of Waxahachie or the booming city of Waco. It’s the one right here in Corsicana. It seems like every week that I venture the eight minutes out my front door to arrive into that glorious florescent light, I am surprised how Walmart is upping their health food game (baby steps at least). I want to dedicate some time every Wednesday (Walmart, Wednesday, easy to remember) to sharing my finds with you. I know a lot of y'all shop on the weekend, so this can give you some ideas for your next trip to the wide world of Walmart. Saddle up, partners, cause here’s our first round:
1. Sahale Snacks Honey Almonds
WHAT: Whole food snack mix
WHERE: Nut and dried fruit aisle
WHY: All ingredients I can identify and pronounce plus protein, fiber, and a pinch of natural sugar
2. Organic Seasonal Cherries
WHAT: Organic rainier cherries
WHERE: In the refrigerated stand-alone shelves in the produce area
WHY: Organic, American, antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory
3. Califia Farms Almond Milk Mocha
WHAT: Dairy free cold brew in 3 varieties- espresso, latte, and mocha (my personal fav)
WHERE: Refrigerated isle between orange juice and butter
WHY: Perfect substitution for chemical-laden coffee creamers- no dairy, no soy, no gluten, nonGMO, real ingredients
4. Krave Jerky
WHAT: Clean jerky
WHERE: Check-out aisles next to garbage junk food
WHY: Gluten-free, high-protein, real ingredients, mega yummy
5. Alexia Spicy Sweet Potato Fries
WHAT: Chipotle-seasoned sweet potato fries
WHERE: Frozen aisle beside inferior fries
WHY: Convenient, no gluten, nonGMO, fiber-rich, and a punch of Vitamin A (yeay for bones, immunity, vision)
