Have y’all been worried that I have abandoned my dear Wal-Mart?
Friends, this smaller town Texan would be lost without Wal-Mart. I just haven’t been in town long enough to need its bountiful offerings.
This month’s grocery shopping has been a dozen eggs here, almond milk there, a few sweet potatoes and organic apples…absolute necessities between McNugget and I’s travels.
But now that we’re settling back home for what appears to be a few weeks, we were in need of a Wal-Mart haul.
I’d missed Wal-Mart, and I was eager to see what awaited me through its automatically opening doors and under its greenish fluorescent lighting.
As always, Paleo foodie greatness awaited me.
In fact, some of my finds are inspiring loads of new recipes that will start trickling out this week. I’m going to TRY (key word) to start giving y’all a recipe each week that coincides with one of my healthy Wal-Mart finds so you have an idea how to transform some of these Wal-Mart finds into snacks, treats, or complete meals!
RIGHT?!?!?! It's a pretty solid idea if I do say so myself.
Yup, that’s why they pay me the big bucks….
Speaking of which, I’m in the process of creating a subscription service…this lil blog is ready to take the plunge into a whole new territory.
But I need YOUR feedback on what I tackle first…y’all have been asking me for months about new mommy at home-workout routines, weekly meal planning and shopping guides, general health consultations. I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to offer ALL of those options to y’all, but I’m a mom/tutor/fitness instructor/wife/blogger and only have so many minutes in my day.
SOOOOO y’all need to scurry on over to my survey and let me know where to go first.
And this is America, after all.
So, whichever service receives the most votes will be the winner winner paleo chicken dinner.
Now, onward march to the wonderful world of PALEO Wal-Mart!
1. Sam's Choice Creamy Cashew Butter
WHAT: Creamy, slightly sweet nut butter
WHERE: Nut butter and jelly section
WHY: For under $6, this is a solid deal. A little sweet, a little salty, it makes a perfect alternative to peanut butter.
2. Califia Farms Almond Milk Creamer
WHAT: Vanilla and Caramel Almondmilk coffee creamer
WHERE: Coffee and tea section
WHY: No dairy, no soy, no carrageenans, this creamy almond and coconut-based creamer is pantry stable. Plus, one carton is only $4.38, which is cheaper than versions I’ve found at gourmet grocery stores in Dallas.
3. Purely Elizabeth Original Ancient Grains Granola
WHAT: Savory-sweet gluten-free granola
WHERE: Gluten free section
WHY: IT’S DECICOUS! Sweetened with coconut sugar and baked with coconut oil, it’s one of the few premade granolas that doesn’t use vegetable or seed oils. Be warned. It’s addictive.
4. Fall Kitchen Accessories
WHAT: Falltastic kitchen towels, table runners, placemats, and oven mits
WHERE: Across from the Halloween costumes/décor section
WHY: Most of the kitchen towels are 88 cents, so you could easily get a few to enjoy for the season.
5. Nutty & Fruity 100% Dried Mango
WHAT: Dried fruit and nut snack balls
WHERE: Random kiosk of dried veggies, fruits, and nuts in near the refrigerated produce/bakery section
WHY: Loaded with organic dried fruits, nuts, seeds, and oats, these make for an easy, nonperishable snack or treat. Plus, I’m a sucker for salty-sweet snacks.
That's all for this week, my friends.
And, as always, if you're out and about grocery shopping and spy something that is HHT-worthy, snap a pic and post it to Instagram or Facebook, tagging me in them. Or, you can always email me about them at firstname.lastname@example.org
