Buenos dias, y'all!
How goes your week? More importantly, how goes your day?! January has already whipped by us, and here we are into February. For me, that means mountains chalky conversation hearts, waxy chocolates, and awkward Valentine gifts from the dozens of eight year-olds I spend my days with.
Whatever February means to you, I think we could all agree it's a great month to make sure we are staying on track with our goals for our new year. It's a great month for organizing, hosting a soup potluck or chili cook off, and spreading a little extra love in the world.
Since I was back to my regularly scheduled weekend routine last Saturday, I was able to uncover some healthy Wal-Mart finds for you lovely people out there.
Before we get into the goods, I'd love to hear from y'all about where YOU do most of your grocery shopping. I'd love to start occasionally highlighting other healthy grocery store finds, or at least the ones I can easily travel to like Kroger, Sprouts, HEB, Brookshires, and Aldi. Let me know in the comments today so I can know how I can better equip you for your grocery shopping endeavors.
Be well, gang, and enjoy this Wal-Mart Wednesday!
1. Organic Blackberries
WHAT: chemical-free, ripe blackberries
WHERE: refrigerated fruit kiosk near apples and pears
WHY: Ripe blackberries in February! Perfect toppers for salads, oatmeal, smoothies, or for a sweet snack, these gems are loaded with fiber, Vitamin E, folate, and magnesium.
2. Silk Caramel Almond Milk Creamer
WHAT: Delicious, dairy-free creamer that has ingredients that don't sound like a science experiment
WHERE: Coffee creamer refrigerator
WHY: No soy, no dairy, no artificial flavors or colors, and no high-fructose corn syrup! It's not squeaky clean (i.e. not organic, still has some natural preservatives), but it's certainly a better choice.
3. Suja Probiotic Juice
WHAT: Cold-pressed (thus maintaining more nutrients) juice with digestion-friendly probiotics
WHERE: With other speciality juices in the refrigerated produce section
WHY: Organic ingredients, honey and stevia sweetened, probiotics, and fairly low calorie and sugar for a juice (whole bottle=50 calories, 9 grams of sugar)
4. 12-Pack Dark Chocolate Seat Salt Kind Bars
WHAT: Junk-free snack bars
WHERE: Granola bar section of the cereal aisle
WHY: While they do still have a little soy in the chocolate coating, these are mister HHT's go-to post workout snack. It's a MUCH better alternative to most of his dietary choices, so I don't sweat the minute amount of soy in each bar. Plus, big box=85 cents a bar versus $1.25 for smaller boxes.
5. Girl Scout Cookies (this is not a joke...I promise)
WHAT: Century-old (yup, 100 year-old tradition as of this year) fundraiser for Girl Scouts of America
WHERE: Outside many of your Wal-Marts on Saturday mornings and afternoons
WHY: Supporting local Girl Scouts is near and dear to my heart seeing as I was a Girl Scout back in the day and many of my students now are scouts. I'm not encouraging y'all to buy and eat thirty boxes, but buying and eating one OR two boxes will support these girls and won't totally ruin your health. Just please don't eat an entire box at once (been there, done that).
Let's Chat: Alrighty gang, remember to leave me a comment telling me where YOU do most of your grocery shopping so I can better serve YOU with my weekly grocery store finds. Be well, and cya tomorrow!
