I have no clue where this week has gone to. From traveling to Louisiana and back last weekend to zipping up to Dallas Monday and being up to my eyeballs in literacy research (hooray for my second to last Master’s course!!!), it has zoomed by. Hopefully, you have loads of magic and mystery ahead of you this weekend. I have been gone for the past 3 weekends, so I’m looking forward to some projects around the house while putting off my research project.
Here’s a few goodies that have been adding that little somethin’ somethin’ to my week. Enjoy!
1. RX Bars
Sometimes, you get in a pinch and you need some convenient and portable protein. I love how these bars list their ingredients on the front of the package, and I appreciate how there’s no added junk. No funky preservatives, colors, sugars, gluten, soy, or dairy. Plus, the flavors are legit. Blueberry and coconut chocolate are my favs (though I have not tried pumpkin…I may have to order a box in October to get me in the autumnal spirit).
2. Frozen Cotton Candy Grapes
This is not some weird joke. No, I’m not messin with you when I say cotton candy grapes. They are a variety of white grape (they're non-GMO, I already checked) that oddly tastes like cotton candy (minus the stained fingers and face). I’ve found them at H.E.B. and Sprouts sporadically throughout the summer. I wasn’t planning on freezing them, but I was leaving town and still had half the package left. If you haven't tried frozen grapes, you don't know what you're missing! Plus, you can plop them into a cocktail (PROSECCO!) for fancifcul ice cubes.
3. Front Squats
I don’t know why I shied away from this squat variation. Maybe I just didn’t understand it…we fear what we cannot understand, right? Anywho, I’ve added them into my lifting mix and am loving them. They’re easier on my back and knees, though I can’t lift nearly as much in a front squat than back squat. Still, they work my quads, core, and chest/upper bicep muscles. Three muscle areas in one move=now we’re talkin.
4. Simple Facial Cleaning Cloths
As someone who teaches exercise classes as a hobby, I’m not ashamed to say I sweat. Not a class goes by that I don’t encounter a temporary moment of blindness due to the sweat-eye confrontation. When I walk out of 65 minutes of dancing my tush off, I am in desperate need of these little beauties. No perfumes, dyes, or irritants promise to leave my skin feeling fresh without being over-dried or oily. I keep them in my car for handy post-Zumba clean-ups.
What proper Southern lady does not have a longstanding love affair with hydrangeas? They are delicate, graceful, and bring me so much joy. They aren’t the easiest thing to grow here in Texas, but it is possible with just the right spot in your yard. While my heart will always pang for the blue hued hydrangeas, white ones are equally exquisite. This potted gem was a $6.99 impulse-buy from Trader Joe’s. Happiness for $6.99? You betcha!
6. Paleo Coconut Yogurt
Back before I went full-blown Paleo, I ate yogurt every single day. Not a day went by without Greek yogurt, plain yogurt, and/or frozen yogurt. Sadly, some of the properties in these dairy delights further clog my pores and further irritate my acne. Boo! So, I’ve done A LOT of experimenting with coconut-based products. One of my best concoctions is this coconut yogurt. All you need is four ingredients, a food processor or high-powered blender, and about three minutes. This faux-gurt does not have a strong coconut flavor and could be easily flavored to your imagination’s delight! I usually keep it pretty basic and then mix fruit or nut butter into each individual serving.
7. Workout Jams
I've been LOVING my 90's pop Pandora station, reviving my undying love of BSB. As promised, here is your mix of boy bands, teenage emo rock, and techno pop.
