I know, I know, I know…Michelle, why in the world would I want to eat lactation ANYTHING?! Have you lost your marbles?
Before you go into a panic about me providing y’all with a recipe that would somehow magically stimulate your body to become a milk factory, I assure you eating lactation-friendly foods WILL NOT cause you to start creating milk.
That’s a result of hormones, gang. And unless you’re currently growing a small human inside of you, your body isn’t going to spontaneously create milk. Case closed.
So to y’all out there who aren’t interested in boosting their body’s natural ability to produce milk to feed their newborns, you don’t have to totally tune me out today. These muffins are loaded with nutrients to power anyone- male or female, young or old- through their day.
If you appreciate a fluffy, lightly sweet, slightly caramely blueberry muffin, then I’ve got the recipe for you!
If you don’t, well, I guess you have my permission to stop reading and I’ll just see your shining face tomorrow.
As of this week, I am 38 weeks into my pregnancy journey. Knowing I am one day closer to meeting my son makes every single day everso exciting. However, with each passing day that he is not here, I continue to burrow into my hardcore nesting mode filled with sink scrubbing, drawer organizing, and meal preparation and freezing.
I know in the coming weeks I’m going to face some of the most exhausting yet priceless days of my life. More than ever, I’m going to need my arsenal of nutritious meals, snacks, and treats to power me through taking care of my recovering body as well as my newborn son.
One way I plan on supporting and nourishing my baby boy is through breastfeeding. I know it can be rough. It can take getting used to. It is time consuming. But, it’s important to me that I give it my best. Therefore, I’ve started researching natural ways I can encourage my body in this nurturing endeavor.
And what have I discovered? There’s A TON of foods I already have on hand that can naturally increase and enhance lactation. Surprise, surprise…what’s healthy to eat for lactation is just healthy food in general. Go figure! Here’s some of them that are already my faves:
Based on this list of foods I pretty much always have on hand, I was able to devise a muffin recipe that combines most of these ingredients (don’t worry, I omitted the salmon and greens today…no body wants a salmon muffin. That’s nasty). And the results? This kid knows what I’m talkin’ about…
Again, not interested in the whole lactation deal at this point in your life? Well, I can rename them just for you…how about Carrot Blueberry Power Muffins? That doesn’t sound too or intimidating, does it?
These muffins are easy, freeze magically, and SO FREAKING GOOD! Have I already prematurely scarfed a few down already? Absolutely. I’m a 38-week pregnant lady after all.
Alrighty friends, there’s one more of these muffins awaiting me this morning in my fridge (don’t worry, I didn’t eat all 12 this week…I froze most of them). Paired with a cup of decaf and a few hard boiled eggs, I’ve got one solid morning ahead. Go whip you up a dozen and see for yourself, homies!
