Happy First Weekend of Fall!!!!
That’s exactly how I’ve been feeling since our tease of fall weather we received a few weeks ago…alas, now that it’s actually fall we’re back to sweaty, humid, there’s-no-way-I’m-wearing-real-clothes-or-blow-drying-my-hair-because-it’s-too-hot-again weather.
Screened porches. Mums. Fairytale Pumpkins. Corduroys. Sweaters. Boots. Nightmare Before Christmas. PSLs…hopefully we can all play soon once the weather is a bit more cooperative.
Though let’s be real, have I started decorating my house for Halloween? Maybe…
I just can’t help myself!
What else has been rocking my world this week? Um, my kid turned 6 months old. Along with 2 bottom teeth and playing with sippy cups and the grand introduction of solids, it’s been a pretty monumental week.
On top of that, I hit a new PR with unbroken pull-ups…6 straight-ish pullups without a break! Y’all, I couldn’t even pull that off before I was pregnant and rockin sculpted abs and such.
So, to all y’all that wanna use this job description of parent as an excuse to not be healthy, I challenge you to really reconsider that one.
Yes, we’re all busy.
Yes, we’re all tired.
Yes, we’d all love to just sit on the couch, watch Parenthood, sip on some Prosecco and eat guacamole (okay, I’ve just described MY perfect evening…come on over if that sounds fun to you)
But, as a parent, we OWE it to our kiddos to be strong, to be fit, to be energetic. They deserve parents who can not only keep up with them but can take them on.
As parents, we MUST take care of ourselves. That means getting the sleep we need. Eating the foods that make us feel like kickin butt. Drinking plenty of water. And moving in a way that brings us joy and does our bodies good.
For me, that includes an array of strength, cardio, functional training (which I teach…Mondays and Wednesdays 12:00-12:30 at the Corsicana YMCA…email or comment if you want a free pass!), and loads of walking.

Happy Saturday sunshines!
And here in Texas, it sure is sunshiny.
What happened to that crisp, autumnal chill that had me bursting out the canned pumpkin, causing me to debate pulling out the Halloween decorations, and even led me to this…
That pumpkin is going to have to enjoy the chill of the air conditioning for now seeing as we are back in the mid-90s for at least the forseeable future.
Nonetheless, I’m hard at work preparing for PUMPKINPALOOZA 2017.
If you’ve been with me since last fall, you would remember how I deemed every Tuesday in fall Pumpkin Tuesday, featuring a new pumpkintastic baked good, beverage, small bite, etc…
I’ve also been LOVING my new fitness class- Queenax Boost.
It’s a vastly difference fitness approach from what I typically do throughout the week (i.e. Crosffit-style conditioning, kickboxing, cardio dance). It incorporates way more balance, coordination, core, and agility all with just a giant swing-like apparatus.
It’s kinda like a plyometric pilates class.
And it’s only 30 minutes (that’s warm up, work-out, and stretching).
If you live in my hood, come play with me Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:00 p.m. at the Corsicana YMCA. Childcare is free, so your little friends can come play with my little McNugget. Not a member? Leave me a comment or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can get ya a free pass to come give it a try!
Aside from burning my core in my Queenax classes, check out the other workouts I’ve been doin’ this week.
And as always, if you have a question about a move or are curious about how to modify a workout to meet your fitness needs, just leave me a comment or email me. I’m here for y’all! Be well, and keep movin!
WHAT'S UP BUTTERCUP?
Life is all good here. Don't let that angelic mug fool you...this kiddo has been kicked out of the YMCA nursery two days in a row this week.
Baby Banshee Teething Tantrums- 2
Babyfree workouts- 0
To be fair to this little nugget, he has been spiking a temperature about once a day, bringing about these meltdowns.
When I run a temp, I feel like shooshoo, too, little man. I understand.
On top of teething, we have been without A.C. for nearly two weeks resulting in our continued nomad status...I think my son is becoming more at home in his pack-n-play than his actual crib.
That's life sometimes.
But can I complain?
I have a safe, cool, dry place to call home. And thousands of my fellow Texans have lost everything. From making a donation to the Red Cross to finding local businesses that are collecting clothing and toys and other supplies, consider lending a hand somehow this weekend. Every little bit helps.
Remember what I told y'all last weekend, you don't have to pull someone out of the water to rescue them.
Speaking of coming to the rescue, your little Healthy Happy Texan is itching to step up her game and come to your rescue even more! I whipped up a 2-second survey for y'all to fill out, letting me know what kind of health-oriented service you'd be interested in me tackling.
I've already got a FREE Paleo cooking ebook in the works for y'all that should be releasing in a week or so, but I wanna know how I can serve y'all next.
Click here to head over to the survey and let me know what I can do for you!
And then, take a gander at this past week's workouts. Almost all of them are under 30 minutes. They can all be modified to your fitness level. Not sure how to do that? Just ask! Leave a comment or email me at email@example.com .
Lastly, I gotta take a second and shout out to one of my homies in South Carolina from college! She has been BLOWING up Instagram with my recipes lately...here is some of her handy work...
Seeing y'all making my recipes is further confirmation to me that what I'm doing is making a difference, allowing y'all to continue your journeys into healthier, better versions of yourselves. It means so much more to me than y'all know. Hugs, kisses, and paleo fist pump to Rahab!
And all y'all out there making my recipes, take a second and snap a pic, post it to Facebook or Instagram, and tag me!
Now, on with the workouts!
Happy long weekend, y'all!
Whether you're lakin or campin or just enjoying some QT with your family and friends, I hope your Labor Day weekend is going swimmingly. Either literally or figuratively.
This past week, little McNugget and I have continued our adventures, as well as travels. That seems to be how our life is these days.
Between our A.C. puttering out and us having to shuffle back and forth from our sweet neighbor's house to baby daddy being deployed to help clean up Harvey's mess in Houston to hittin' the road to Louisiana with my bro- and sis-in-law, we've pretty much been living out of a suitcase once again.
But, even with those little hiccups to our daily life, we still have a roof over our heads, an air-conditioned, dry, safe place we can lay our heads down at night (even if it isn't our own home), plenty of healthy food in our fridge and pantry, and loads of love and support all around us. I cannot imagine what those mommies and sweet babies in Houston are going through.
Which is why I went on a rampage through my house looking for unopened baby supplies that little McNugget could share with those babies who have lost everything. He has a TON of blankets and stuffed animals and toiletries that he hasn't touched yet, so I figured he would want to let his little buddies in southeast Texas use them instead.
If you're a fellow Corsicana friend, you can drop off donations (clothing, cleaning supplies, nonperishable food, toys) at the Collin Street Bakery located off I-45 from now until further notice. And, maybe while you're there, you could head inside and grab a killer cup of coffee and gluten-free coconut macaroon. Just sayin....shameless plug, I know.
If you are not one of my neighbors but still want to help, contact your local Salvation Army or just do a quick google search to see what locations are collecting donations in your area. These people have lost everything, and most of them do not have flood insurance.
I just cannot imagine.
With that in mind, I really can't complain about my husband being deployed or my A.C. being kaputt or whatever first world problem I face today.
I am blessed. And with that, I hope to spread my blessings with others by sharing my clothing, my son's supplies, my husband, and, for you lovely little dew drops, my fitness ideas and inspirations.
That is making a difference, too, just in a varied way.
You don't have to pull people out of flood waters to rescue them.
Just a little nugget for you to marinate on this weekend.
Alrighty, enough of all that, onto the workouts! Starting next week, y'all glorious people I call neighbors can start joining me for lunchtime workouts at the Corsicana YMCA. Thirty minutes. Full body. Be there or be square.
Happy Saturday, sugar bears!
How ya doin?
Catching your breath after the first week or few days of school?
Outrunning the hecticness of Harvey? If you're living in the coastal Texas areas or are part of the search and rescue teams making a difference in those areas, know that my prayers are with y'all. Hurricanes and the flooding are no joke.
While we were briefly in the path of Harvey in Austin yesterday, we zipped on outta there and headed home a tad early to escape the sheets of rain and miles of bumper to bumper traffic on 35.
In the past week, I've been in Austin with Mr. HHT, come home for a Queenax functional fitness training, and then returned to Austin with Mr. HHT (boring lawyer conferences). With so many free days in Austin, I scheduled our days completely around FOOD!!!!
Austin=Paleo foodie heaven!!!
So many funky tacos, spicy margaritas, quirky ceviches, and, of course, boat loads of brussel sprouts...to say I'm inspired in an understatement.
But, life is all about balance. I planned these foodie night outs knowing I'd eat clean for breakfast and lunch everyday. And on top of that, I made sure to get in some kind of workout and walking in daily.
Let's be real. You can't eat pimento cheese queso and habanero margaritas and grassfed fig ice cream for three meals a day. Well, you van, but that's gonna catch up to ya real quickly.
So here's how I balanced out some of those decadent dinners and drinks while out in Austin. Cause when in Austin, you gotta embrace the local culture and enjoy yourself in moderation.
Hiddy ho neighbors!
Y’all, what a week it has been!
I’m not entirely sure what city I’m in at the moment…from Knoxville to Dallas to Corsicana to San Antonio and now Austin…
To say McNugget and I have been busy is an understatement.
But, like I always tell you, busy IS NOT AN EXCUSE when it comes to health and fitness, ya hear?!
Now a lot of y’all are recovering from the first week or few days of school, which is a whirlwind in and of itself. BUT, busy teachers and parents and coaches out there, that doesn’t me you don’t have time for a 15 minute walk or 20 minute circuit before or after work.
From walking a few extra minutes in the airport terminals like a dorky pack mule to making up my own circuit while letting little man recharge at my aunt’s house in Dallas to making the most of my hotel gyms, I’m not letting my on-the-go lifestyle derail me from my health goals.
And, let’s be frank friends, keeping my nutrition on point while traveling is even more critical. That means doing a little prep ahead of time like boiling eggs, baking a few sweet potatoes, and researching the kind of dining facilities and kitchen equipment will be available on the road. Knowing where I'll have a mini-fridge or free breakfast or a microwave is SO helpful!
Yes, it takes a little extra time.
Yes, it takes a little extra planning.
Yes, I feel like a red neck bringing in bags and bags and bags of fruit and raw cheese and gluten-free crackers and the like…BUT in the end I’m the winner winner pate dinner (yes, I brought calf pate with me…hard core, I know) because I won’t be wasting money on overpriced hotel snacks and room service.
More money in my pockets. Less junk food in my body.
That’s what this lifestyle is all about!
Now, onto the workouts!
