Good morning, you little unicorn, you.
How are ya?
I can’t lie….I’m 110% awesome at the moment.
Cause this momma is getting a way overdue vacation from her 24/7 job.
I absolutely love and am so blessed to have the privilege of staying home with my son day in and day out; however, after 8 months of endless spit up and nursing and stanky diapers, I’ve been eager for a brief hiatus from my parental responsibilities.
Shout out to CamCam and D.Daddy for allowing this belated babymoon to happen.
Yup, if you haven’t been up on my Instagram or Facebook, Mr. HHT and I left little McNugget with his grandparents in Knox Vegas and are in Dominican Republic for our friends’ wedding.
Poor me, huh?
And while on vacay, I look forward to exploring ways to work in some fitness in between trips to the swim-up bar (what better type of bar is there?!) and guacamole station.
I just can’t not be active while on vacation. I don’t wanna quit working out just because I’m at a resort. So I won’t. Some of our friends here have thought we're crazy for wanting to work out on vacation, but that's just part of what we wanna do with our extra, childless time here.
That’s just what works for me. But no judgment if you don’t hit the gym while you’re on vacation. It’s a few days that you’ve earned to relax and unwind..and if not exercising is part of how you unwind then I say it’s okey dokey…just know that it may be a little tough getting it started again when you get back home.
Alrighty friends, with that little pep talk over, here’s what I’ve been up to this past week with my workouts!
It's hard to believe just a few days ago I was comfortably jump roping outside in shorts and a tank top seeing as it's about 38 degrees outside this morning!!!
That's Texas for ya, huh?
Am I complaining? NO WAY, JOSE!!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE X 1,000 the cold. In fact, I signed up to do a 5K here in a few minutes solely because of the weather...sure supporting the local Humane Society is a solid cause, too. But bundling up and hitting the pavement= heaven.
It's just so darn refreshing and invigorating.
Plus, I know it won't last for long, so I gotta take advantage of it while I can!
How's your week been? Amping up for Halloween? Or dreading it?
Well, if you want 6 easy ways to ensure you'll have both a sweet yet healthy holiday, head over to my homemade chocolate candy recipe round-up to get 6 simple (we're talking melt chocolate in microwave simple)+paleo+vegan recipes to keep all your little ghoulies and ghosties appeased come All Hallow's Eve.

And once you've enjoyed one too many homemade Reese's cup OR Butterfingers OR Chunky Monkey bites, you may wanna spend a few minute in the gym.
I've got y'all covered there, too! So maybe we can be proactive this Halloween and get in plenty of activity during the day to minimize the impact of the extra sugar we may be noshing on later that night.
Need some workout ideas to ensure those treats don't play tricks on your jeans the next day? Keep reading, my friends! I've got your backs there!
Well goooood morning sunshines!
And Happy WEEKEND to y’all!
You made it through another week. High five!
For us, the McNugget turned the big 7 months…sitting up, solids, and working on the next set of teeth are what he’s all about these days.
What are some of his favorite things? They are as follows:
He’s such a mess and we continue to fall in love with him more and more every passing day.
He’s such a mess and we continue to fall in love with him more and more every passing day.
With him working on his core strength by sitting up like a BOSS, it only made sense that I upped my core game this week with in my Queenax class…loads of toes to bar, plank variations, and one of my new faves- the windshield wipers! Keep reading to see my tutorial on this muffin top-melting move!
Speaking of which, I get asked all the time about how to get flatter abs. What’s the magical secret? 5 minutes of daily plank? 1,000 weighted sit ups?
Well y'all, it’s all about your nutrition.
Dairy, gluten, sugar, processed foods, and alcohol are the main culprits to belly bloat for the majority of us out there.
So it’s pretty simple, gang. Cut back or cut out those foods in order to cut those abs.
Now, being a living, breathing human, I still eat sugar and dairy and enjoy adult beverages from time to time, but I’m smart about it.
I sweeten with dates, coconut sugar, maple, and honey.
I eat grassfed, organic, or nondairy yogurt, cheese, and milk.
I sip cocktails that are less sugary and sip them infrequently.
Well, here I am 7 months postpartum, eating real food, moving daily, and keeping my sleep and stress in check.
This is not about body shaming or me trying to show off or what not. I just wanna push the fact that being a mommy and having kids doesn’t mean you have to let go of the body composition goals you have for yourself.
It doesn’t mean you have to be out of shape the rest of your life.
It doesn’t mean you have to accept the fluffy, squishy postpartum self that comes after childbirth.
It doesn’t mean you have to put your health on hold in order to be a parent.
You can do it.
And I can help.
Here’s how I worked on my #squishpacktosixpack journey this week.
Isn't today a great today to do something healthy for yourself?
Happy Saturday, y'all lil apple dumplins!
How are you today? Gosh, that is one of the phrases McNugget's beloved singing/talking/light-up cow says about 600X a day at our house.
But really, how are you?
October is nearly halfway over already. The school year is whizzing by. Kids are in the groove of routine and structure and homework and all that jolly good fun.
And like many of y'all, that means your routine and structure are back in the swing, too. Which for some of y'all means more consistent workouts and meal planning and healthy habits dutifully resumed. But I know some of y'all out there you let the busy schedules of your kiddos and ongoings of life overrun your time for workouts and healthy meals and such.
I hear y'all, loud and clear.
But a few days ago I was listening to one of my favorite Podcasts- The Fat Burning Man- and he was chatting about how awesome it is that to be healthy, happy humans we really only need 10-20 minutes of sweat-inducing workouts a few times of week in order to look, feel, and perform our best.
And I couldn't agree more! In fact, Thursday I cranked out a delightfully sweaty workout that lasted a mere 11 minutes.
11 minutes. That's not even 1/4 of a Voice episode!
If you have time to watch 11 minutes of The Voice, you can get in a workout today.
You've got one life and one body to live it in. Make it count. Today.
Here's how I've been making it count this week. And if you have any questions about moves or modifications or anything, leave me a comment! I'll get back to ya lickety split!
How ya hangin this weekend?
Hopefully you are getting in a little extra time for you- a little extra naptime, workout time, family time, cooking time, etc.
For me, it’s all the above!
I’ve got my FABULOUS mommy in town, and she is workin’ her tail off here at my house, certainly earning her keep! From painting over the maroon, Asian-themed wallpaper in my foyer that doesn’t quite float my boat to reviving my backyard to babysitting McNugget while daddy does his state guard thang in Austin, she is a worker bee FOR SURE.
Like I told y’all, though, I’m keeping her wine glass filled, her dinner plate loaded, and her McNugget quota overflowed.
This week in my workout world, I’ve been jogging a little more and more.
Why? Because the humidity is gradually dropping, temperatures are chilling out, and it just feels right. Which just further reminds me that when it comes to fitness, you do you.
Love triathalons or 5Ks or just walking your dog? Sweet, keep it up!
Or are Groupon pilates classes, early morning yoga sessions, and studio cycling more your jam? Peachy, getcha some!
As long as you’re moving in a way that is both joyful and sustainable, keep it up. If you hate jogging, don’t do it and try something else.
Working out and being fit is a lifelong commitment, not just a temporary fix to a tight dress or snug jeans.
So get movin and stay movin, y’all. And here’s how I did just that this week!
Well howdy doody my little snickerdoodles!
How was your week? Bananas in pajamas? Smooth sailin?
Well, whether it was easy peasy or was mega stinky, you’ve arrived at your weekend in one piece.
How was our week?
Ah, well, between our continued teething and subsequent low grade fevers, refusal of solids and bottles and sippy cups, AND six month vaccinations, it’s been a little on the rocky side.
Momma was in need of an adult beverage by Thursday evening, especially after little McNugget decided to transform from my little sleeping angel boy into a bellowing banshee from 2:30-4:30 a.m. Thursday.
Not cool, son, not cool.
Alas, did I pitty party and stay in my pajamas snooze all day Thursday?
Nope. I sipped a little pumpkin spice coffee, threw on my workout clothes for a 20-minute strength+cardio session, and thanked my Father:
In a world that is all too overcome by negativity and criticism and division, I always start my day off with positivity and gratitude.
I’m thankful to have this body that can nourish and comfort my son, that can run for miles, that can do the inclining/declining monkey bars, that can encourage and inspire others to seek better versions of themselves.
So how about you? Maybe your workouts or food choices weren’t the best this week. Maybe things at work or with your family were a little off, a little overwhelming, a little disappointing.
Well, today is a new day. A new week is ahead of you. Starting right now, not tomorrow or Monday, focus on what is going well in your life, what God is blessing you with at this moment.
Then, keeping that in mind, move forward with your day remembering you have been given this one life and this one body to do good. Taking care of yourself is crucial to helping that body be its best.
Here’s the ways I did my body some good this past week. No matter what, I made sure I at least got in a little walking every day. I didn’t always make it to the gym, but I made a point to move daily.
I think we could all agree that’s a solid goal for all of us. Agreed?
So take a gander at my workouts and do some good for your body TODAY!
Healthy Happy Texan
